Update on the House

Um... So, yeah... I did this.

I really thought I was turning on the burner that did NOT have the plastic containter on it.

I was wrong. And this is what happened.

Arthur and I evacuated with the birds and stayed out of the house for several hours, leaving all the windows open and all the A/C units and fans running. When we came back, all the smells of toxic burning hydrocarbons were gone. I will check better next time.

This is the cool Welcome Mat that Arthur and I bought at BB&B. We had this huge 20-minute analytical discussion in the entranceway of the superstore, evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of each individual Welcome Mat.

In the end, I agreed to go with the one that Arthur wanted from the start.

This picture shows off our cool new patio stuff! We got two pretty natural-looking patio chairs, and I potted some leftover Coleus from the greenhouse at Woodbridge High School.

The Coleus had been totally wilted, left to die after all the State Fair madness. But they perked right up with some water and fresh soil! And now they make GREAT patio landscaping!

Here We Are!

Well, I know that Arthur and I sort of disappeared after the wedding, but believe it or not, we've been hard at work putting together our home down in Lewes. We are actually renting from my Dad a cute little house in the woods by the bay. We officially moved in on July 31st.
The first thing we did was add a "real" shelf and rod system to the closet; the wire shelving just wasn't going to hold all our clothes!

This picture shows my Dad and Arthur putting up the support beam. Not pictured is the arduous journey through Lowes and the sawing and fitting of all the components...

We also filled up the waterbed, installed a mailbox, and put the kayak in the slip. It was a very busy day, and we couldn't have done it without my Dad's help (and tools!)

Since then, we've been unpacking and arranging things practically non-stop. We've got all our kitchen things (mostly wedding gifts!) in place. We celebrate a little whenever something is used "for the first time."

This photo shows half of our kitchen, with the view of the wilderness outside.

We're in love with our new flat-screen TV, and we have it hooked up to the Wii and X-Box so we can play games (in-between working, of course!)

Arthur's favorite part is that he gets to have his DVD collection displayed right by the recliners.

Most of the large items you see in this picture were given or lent to us by our parents and friends. We are certainly lucky to have recieved so much useful stuff!

Here is our beautiful bedroom with our brand-new bed set!

For now the water-mattress is bothering my back too much to sleep on; we may have to get a regular mattress.

We also plan on repainting my tropical drawer set to match the room - despite how much I will miss the colors!

Here is the guest bedroom, which I have been sleeping in for now. I think Arthur's butterflies and the Chinese shell art make some nice touches.

On August 4th we got the house hooked up with cable TV and internet. Finally we felt connected to the world again!

This is Arthur's "corner," in which he's got all his computer stuff crammed onto a desk that was too small for me. (Yes, that's right! Arthur is not so ergonomically picky.)

We obviously have lots more boxes to go through...

This is going to be my "study," where I can do all my teaching and work stuff.

It is also where Buddy and Kiddo hang out. Their new flick-proof cage cover (made by Mom) is really helping to keep the place clean.

Well, that's all for now, folks! We hope you enjoyed seeing the photos of our house, and we'll be sure to put up more as new things happen along the way. Thanks for checking out our Newlywed Blog!
